2011 looks all set to be the year of Android. The operating system, developed by Google, has already become the second biggest OS in the world according to sales and looks all but set to overtake Symbian as the world’s premier mobile phone software this year.

There are however, several other phones set for release soon that, due to Android supremacy and clear winner in Mobile OS sector, look all set to slip under the radar. This is a big shame though as some of these devices could have a great future ahead of them and there is definitely other impressive software out there to be taken into account.

The Samsung Wave 578 looks set to be released soon, nearly a year after the first Wave introduced us to Samsung’s Bada software and it looks as though it could, under the right circumstances, be quite a big hit for the Korean company. It is a mid range phone so do not expect fireworks but it does have plenty of features packed into its small and light – it weighs 100g – frame including a 3.2″ 240 x 400 pixel capacitive TFT display, a 3.2 megapixel camera on the back plus a 0.3 camera on the front so you can use the video calling feature that the phone will have.

There has also been plenty of talk about new Windows Phones recently and most of the talk has been around the Sony Ericsson phones the Xperia X7 and the X7 mini. These phones look set to challenge the hegemony posed by Android as Microsoft look to really push their Operating System Windows 8 in 2011 and look to roam the mobile phone market with HP iPAQ Voice Messenger- A QWERTY Windows Mobile.

It is rumoured that the X7 will have a 4.3″ screen, 1.2GHz processor, and an 8.1 megapixel camera. The X7 mini supposedly sports a 3.5″ screen, 1GHz processor, and a whopping 10.1 megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom and a Xenon flash.

It looks as if it is not just Android phones that look set for success in 2011.

Not only used as a platform of operating smartphone and netbook system, Google Android is also used to design a media player. IRiver is one of them that use it to create a gadget that will be the competitor of Apple iPod.

At glance, the shape is similar with iPod Touch with touch screen 3.5 inches wide. The white color is also typical of Apple before switch to silver. This K2 Gadget will be equipped with WiFi connection, web browser, Bluetooth, and even digital TV tuner. In addition there is accelerometer features position so that the display of the screen adjusts with the position.

Unfortunately there are no other details about this product. Product manager of IRiver, Danny Bejanoff, does not sure when this product will be released to the market. If it is really exit, iPod Touch will have a competitor that may be equivalent.
